Walk & Talk Therapy in Burlington & Oakville
For some people, walking side by side can make it feel a little easier to talk.
Walk & Talk Therapy offers the option of meeting outdoors for sessions while walking through nearby parks or trails in Burlington and Oakville. Being in nature and moving gently can help some people feel more grounded and less pressured as they explore what’s on their mind.
For many, sitting face-to-face in an office can feel intense or unfamiliar. Walking together creates a different rhythm for conversation — one that allows space to pause, reflect, and reconnect with both your body and the environment around you.
Walk & Talk Therapy may feel supportive for those who enjoy being outdoors, prefer movement while talking, or notice that nature helps their nervous system settle.
What Walk & Talk Therapy Can Support
Outdoor sessions can support many of the same concerns we explore in traditional therapy, including:
Anxiety and stress
Relationship patterns and relational wounds
Life transitions and identity exploration
Cultural identity and family expectations
Feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected
Our work continues to draw on relational, attachment-based, somatic, and trauma-informed approaches — simply in a different setting.
For some people, walking side-by-side can make reflection feel easier and conversations flow more naturally.
Accessibility and Choice
Your comfort, autonomy, and access matter.
Walk & Talk Therapy is always optional and may not be the right fit for everyone.
You’re welcome to move at your own pace, pause when needed, or sit during our conversation. The goal isn’t exercise — it’s creating a space where conversation and reflection can unfold naturally.
Outdoor sessions may involve gentle walking, so it’s helpful that clients feel physically comfortable participating in this format. If mobility, health, weather, privacy, or accessibility concerns make outdoor sessions difficult, we can always explore other options together.
What to Expect
Walk & Talk sessions typically take place along quiet walking paths, neighbourhood streets, or parks in Burlington or Oakville. Before meeting outdoors, we’ll review the general location and plan together so you know what to expect.
During the session, we’ll move at a comfortable pace and can slow down, pause, or sit whenever needed.
Before beginning outdoor sessions, we’ll talk together about:
confidentiality in public spaces
weather and seasonal considerations
safety and accessibility needs
whether this format feels supportive for you
Confidentiality in Public Spaces
Because sessions take place outdoors, there is a possibility that we may encounter other people along the path. While we choose quieter areas when possible, confidentiality cannot be guaranteed in the same way as in a private office.
If we pass someone you know, I will not acknowledge you unless you greet me first. This helps protect your privacy and allows you to decide whether you wish to disclose that you are in therapy.
If at any point a space feels too busy or uncomfortable to continue our conversation, we can pause, change topics, or move to a quieter area.
Outdoor Considerations
Meeting outdoors can bring many benefits, but it also means working within a natural environment. Weather conditions, uneven surfaces, insects, or passing traffic are all possibilities when walking outside.
We will choose routes that are generally quiet and accessible, and you are always welcome to pause, sit, or return to another session format if needed.
A Different Way to Connect
Therapy doesn’t have to happen only inside four walls.
For some people, being outdoors creates a sense of spaciousness that supports reflection, nervous system regulation, and meaningful conversation.
